Most travelers begin in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital. From there, we can take a domestic flight to Fada or Amdjarass, which are the nearest towns to the Ennedi region. Flights cost approximately $150–$200 one way. From the airport, we usually need a 4x4 vehicle, which can be rented locally for about $100–$150 per day, often including a driver. Guided tours are strongly recommended because desert tracks are difficult to navigate alone, and local guides charge roughly $50–$70 per day, covering navigation, meals, and cultural explanations.

Best Time to Visit

The best months to explore Ennedi are November through February, when temperatures are cooler, ranging from 20°C to 30°C. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the most beautiful lighting for photography, with long shadows and glowing sandstone colors. The rainy season, June through September, can make desert tracks muddy or impassable, so it’s best to avoid that period. For multi-day tours, we recommend planning 3–4 days to explore the main spire fields and nearby rock art sites comfortably.
