Have you ever dreamed of waking up to snow-capped peaks, glassy fjords, and rows of colorful cabins on the water? That’s Reine—a tiny fishing village tucked away in Norway’s Lofoten Islands.
Though only about 314 people live here, Reine leaves a big impression on every traveler who visits. We’re here to help you plan a trip that’s smooth, scenic, and unforgettable.

How Do We Get to Reine?

Reine may seem remote, but getting there is part of the fun.
- By Plane: Fly into Leknes Airport (LKN) from Oslo or Tromsø. From Leknes, it’s about a 75-minute drive to Reine.
- By Ferry: You can take a ferry from Svolvær to Moskenes, which is only 10 minutes from Reine by car or local bus. The ferry ride costs around $25–$35 per person and lasts about 3–4 hours.
- By Car: Driving along the E10 highway through Lofoten is a scenic highlight in itself. Renting a car gives us full control of our itinerary and lets us stop at hidden beaches and viewpoints.

When’s the Best Time to Visit?

- Summer (June–August): Expect long daylight hours, green hills, and temperatures around 50–60°F (10–15°C). Perfect for hiking and kayaking.
- Winter (December–February): Darker days but a high chance to see the Northern Lights. Expect snow and chilly temps around 20–30°F (-6 to -1°C).
- Fall and Spring: These months offer fewer crowds and golden light—great for photography and peaceful walks.
If we want midnight sun, go in June or July. If we want auroras, visit between October and March.

Top Things We Can Do in Reine

Even though Reine is small, it’s full of experiences:
- Reinebringen Hike: The most famous viewpoint in the Lofoten Islands. It’s a short but steep hike—about 1.5 to 2 hours round-trip. Entrance is free, and the newly built stone stairs make it safer.
- Kayaking the Fjords: Rentals cost about $40–$60 for a half-day, or we can join a guided tour. The waters around Reine are calm and perfect for beginners.
- Fishing Trips: Local tours offer 2–3 hour trips for around $80–$100, often with gear included. A fun way to try a traditional Arctic lifestyle.
- Photography Walks: Every corner of Reine is camera-worthy, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Where to Stay and What to Eat

- Rorbuer Cabins: These are the iconic red wooden cabins once used by fishermen. Now, many are cozy rentals with ocean views. Expect to pay $120–$250 per night.
- Budget Tip: Try guesthouses in nearby Moskenes or Sørvågen to save on accommodation.
- Local Food: Try Arctic char or dried cod in small cafes. Meals range from $15–$30. Some places offer fresh seafood buffets with a view.

Opening Hours and Entrance Fees

- Most outdoor spots like Reinebringen and village walks are open 24/7, all year round—and completely free.
- Guided tours (kayaking, boat rides, fishing) usually run from 9 AM to 6 PM, depending on weather and season.
- The Reine Cultural House occasionally hosts exhibitions. Entry is $5–$10, depending on the show.
